Candock Experience

El Nido Project

About This Experience

The El Nido project presented an interesting challenge to our exclusive partner in the Philippines. The country comprises over 7,000 islands including El Nido, a municipality of the province of Palawan. In 2007, Palawan, and more particularly El Nido, was nominated one of the best travel destinations.

The national strategy of the Department of Tourism in the Philippines is of course to promote tourism development. The 10-year plan targets the improvement of obsolete infrastructures. Candock has actively participated in the improvement of many of them.

Issues and Mandate

As tourism in the Philippines is rapidly expanding and the number of tourists increases drastically every year, hundreds of boats attempt docking on Palawan islands beaches.  This presents tourists with unpleasant problems related to access, security, traffic and traffic jams, on top of having to wade ashore with water up to their waist.

Candock contribution to this project was to provide a lasting solution to simplify daily life for the Filipino people as well as to improve the experience for tourists docking at El Nido.

Objectives

  • Have minimal impact on the environment
  • Harmonize with the scenery
  • Improve efficiency
  • Enhance safety for tourists arriving by boat
  • Be accommodating for the docking of various boat types, while increasing safety

Candock Experience

" Provide a lasting solution that allows various types of boats to dock on the El Nido coastline in order to simplify the daily life of the Filipino people and improve the experience of tourists sailing to the islands "

Innovation

Our docks are built to accommodate many types of crafts, although normally, only the traditional boats called bangka dock there. The U-shape of docks where boats can drop passengers was specifically designed so that the front of the bangka, which is higher, could move in as far as possible.

The design of the different docks may seem identical, but each site is independently assessed, and the anchoring is conceived for the conditions proper to each site.

Community

As we have distributors in many countries, the impact of our projects on the local communities is significant. For the El Nido project, our local Candock partner worked together with the Filipino people and trained them to carry out the installation of the various platforms.  Not only did it help us better understand the implementation of the project in the community, but the jobs that were created also contributed to the local economy.

This joint endeavor resulted in a better management of the flow of tourists, which benefited the local businesses, and also created a more organized, structured environment which blends in with the sandy beaches that El Nido is famous for.
