Candock Experience

The Dock

ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

‘’  What does the future look like? ’’ That is what the Stab Magazine, a non-conventional and marginal reference in surf, wondered. It thus inspired one of their biggest publicity stunts in recent years.

Stab and Volcom staged a 3-day stunt in Bali, Indonesia, featuring several famous surfers such as Noa Deane, Ozzie Wright, Balaram Stack, Imaikalani Devault, Yago Dora and Mitch Coleborn.

We were selected as partner notably for the quality and the robustness of our products, but also for our authenticity, our expertise and our young team’s determination to constantly push the experimental boundaries of water sports activities.

Inspired by this photo (left side photo), the Volcom, Stab and Candock teams imagined a platform from which surfers could soar to catch the waves.

Though trickier than it seems, surfers successfully performed many feats including some unplanned pirouettes! “Catching the wave” is quite literal here.

INNOVATION

Without hesitation, the Stab team was willing to venture through unknown territories in order to arouse strong emotions within the surfer community. They experienced a brand-new way of catching waves with their board from a floating dock that perfectly fitted wave movement.

Many would believe that the idea was to save energy as there was no paddling to catch the wave involved. But to the contrary, a great deal of agility and quick thinking were needed to survive the experience!

Held in place at the break point of the waves (surf break) by a cable tied to a boat off shore, the 100-foot floating dock weighed close to half a ton.
